We move out of the Samhain season, the waning moon inviting us to take slow, reflective autumnal steps towards the Winter Solstice. The period leading up to the Samhain Full Moon in Taurus on November 6/7th was for large numbers of us the most intensely transformational part of 2014. Autumn requires us to start to give more attention to the inner world, not be externally focussed all the time … to adjust to the climate of the new season and to become conscious of the new realities in our lives after a full summer of adventures and challenges. Starting from the Equinox when Libra brought in energies of balance, and further kicked off by two eclipses as we came to the Scorpio month, many of us know we have just lived through a major shift, a time of revelation and revolution (at least internally though also much needed externally). When we reached the deep water sign in late October the demand was there to courageously face the darkness, deal with shadow, let old parts of ourselves die and be reborn, giving us a two week period from new to full moon, with Samhain 31 October slap bang in the middle of it (the moment when much of the world celebrates the dark and mysterious in all kinds of ways), to get on with the process.
It felt like the pressure lifted when the moon reached Taurus, the opposite sign to the sun in Scorpio, giving us soothing earthy vibrations to calm the storms of the scorpionic emotional depths, and the energies during last weekend immediately after the moon peak were potentially rich, rewarding and quite a relief after the previous 6 weeks. Potentially because it is up to us. How we engage each day, how we use our minds and treat our bodies will always influence our experience. We have the power in our metaphysical nature to find heaven in harsh times or create chaos and pain in good ones. Because the mind is so powerful, it really does help to understand what is going on in the bigger picture of our existence here on earth – and move to a place of love and peace about that existence. Fear kills the soul.
Now in the slow slide towards dark moon, with new moon cycle starting on the 22nd November, we are being offered some respite time – that is, if we have completed the letting go process. If there is still more we could let go of right now, if there is still stuff biting at us, perhaps keeping us unwell or depressed, we can use this period leading to the dark moon to do it:
A clue to navigating this season of transformational rebirth is to look at the connections of our inner world, seeing particularly where we are not in good internal relationship with others. These parts usually stand out clearly, but might be somewhat buried, or denied. Any negative attitude, grievance or judgement we are carrying inside about someone else is in fact only harming us by blocking the flow of love within us. That person who has wounded us is offering us a chance to move to a place of forgiveness and peace, by being compassionate, or open minded, enough to appreciate they are what we are – a spirit negotiating, sometimes clumsily, the tides and trials of human incarnation. We really are all One in this game.
Each year at this point we get the chance to shed parts of our lives that no longer serve us, to come to a place of love – of Right Relation – with all life: plant, animal, human and spirit. How deeply we take this is up to us, but this year the waves of change are certainly encouraging us to go deep and aim for a very bright rebirth.
NEXT YEAR WE CAN RIDE THIS WAVE OF CHANGE IN THE LOVING EMBRACE OF FAERIE COMMUNITY: WE GATHER AT FEATHERSTONE CASTLE 19-29 OCTOBER 2015 FOR THE FIRST EVER EUROFAERIE AUTUMN GATHERING WITH FULL MOON ON OCTOBER 27TH. WE WILL SHARE OUR STORIES AND MAKE RITUAL AROUND OUR TRANSFORMATIONS, HELP EACH OTHER PREPARE FOR THE WINTER MONTHS AND CAST OUR QUEER SPELLS OF PEACE FROM OUR HOME BETWEEN THE WORLDS.
This year, another exciting astrological journey is coming our way once the Sun, reaches Sagittarius on 22 November, joined there by the Moon under three hours later. New Moon on the first day of the Sun’s journey through the sign is rare, and is another of the cosmic synchronicities that have brought so much change this year (such as new moon on new years day). The spirit holding us will suddenly shift from Scorpio deep water to a month of aspirational Sagittarian fire. The Centaur arrives in style, the Archer with his bow, bringing with him vision and healing fire.
Sagittarius month leads us to the Winter Solstice, when we celebrate the return of the light… yes in only a few weeks we will already be at the darkest point of the year and looking forward to lighter times to come. Life is going far too fast to sit around in suffering. The Wheel of the Year teaches us how to live in harmony with the planet, each other and ourselves. Life is about finding out who we are and then being it. The media, academia, government, business will tell you something different. I am queer because I listened to myself, not to what society said. I am spiritual for the same reason. I am spiritual because I am queer.
